How this practice test works
At the naturalization interview, a USCIS officer asks the civics questions out loud and you answer out loud. There are no answer options to choose from. For the 2025 version the officer asks up to 20 of 128 questions and you need 12 correct; for the 2008 version, up to 10 of 100 questions with 6 correct to pass.
C-T-ZEN mirrors that format. The mock interview picks random questions from your version, lets you answer from memory, shows the accepted USCIS answers, and stops the way an officer would: as soon as you have enough correct answers to pass, or too many wrong ones. At the end you get a review of every question, so you know exactly what to repeat.
Use the quiz and flashcards to learn, and the mock interview to check that you can recall answers without hints. Questions where the answer depends on your state, or on who holds an office right now, are marked so you can look up your own answer before the interview.
Questions about the practice test
Is the practice test free?
Yes. All modes are free and work without an account. Your progress is saved only in your browser on this device.
Is the real civics test multiple choice?
No. The officer asks the questions orally and you answer in your own words. Use the quiz to learn, but finish with the mock oral interview.
Which version should I practice?
It depends on when you filed Form N-400: before October 20, 2025 means the 2008 test, on or after that date means the 2025 test.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first visit the trainer keeps working without an internet connection, and you can add it to your home screen like an app.
Is C-T-ZEN an official USCIS tool?
No. C-T-ZEN is an independent educational project. The questions and answers come from the official USCIS lists.
